Angelina Reyes

Angelina “Angie” Reyes has participated and volunteered in HCAC projects, events and activities for a number of years. She is a strong believer in using your gifts, talents and skills to help others lighten their load, in particular the financial impact of higher education. New as the President of HCAC, she is not new to the work of serving and volunteering. She has served as a Board Member as well as Chair of the HCAC Scholarship Committee. This Committee works many hours to select and award deserving Hispanic/Latino youth in Alameda County.

Angie is the retired City Clerk of Hayward, working for over 35 years. During her tenure, she earned several disguised designations, including the International Institute Municipal Clerks’ Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) and the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk (MMC). She was an instructor on local elections, customer service, communications and mentoring at conferences and training sessions held by the California County Clerks, the City Clerks of California, and League of California Cities and participated annually in the City Clerk education track at the UC Extension Program in Riverside. She is a Past President and Board Member of the City Clerks Association of California and in 2002 was selected as the City Clerk of the Year. She continues to be a member of the League of Women Voters, previously a board member as well as the Smart Voter Coordinator. She states that volunteering is the “right thing” to do; it is the ultimate exercise in a democracy. When you vote in elections, it is the “right thing” to do every two years, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in now and in the future.

Angie also gives and participates in several community ministries at her church, Union City Apostolic Church. She also volunteers on committees that benefit the City of Newark, where she resides. She has been married to her childhood sweetheart, Ernest, for over 51 years. They have three wonderful children and are most proud of their 14 grandchildren.
